AP govt to clear arrear bills under ‘Employment Guarantee Scheme’ soon

The Andhra Pradesh state government has reported to the High court that it has paid bills to people under the ‘Employment Guarantee Scheme’ less than Rs 5 lakh.For works above Rs 5 lakh, Rs 1,117 crore has to be paid, and Rs 513 crore has been released by the Union government, said the AP government representative.

Also, he said that the state government would clear the arrears from this amount.After hearing the details from the AP state government, the High Court adjourned the case till August 24.Several public interest litigation cases have been filed in the High Court alleging non-payment of arrears by the government for work done under the Employment Guarantee Scheme in Andhra Pradesh.Against this backdrop, the High Court recently heard the petitions.

The bench comprising Justices Chagari Praveen Kumar and Boppana Krishnamohan recently heard the hearing.The cases came up for hearing before the bench of Justice Praveen Kumar as CJ Justice Goswami was on leave.

Finance Secretary SS Rawat, Panchayati Raj, Chief Secretary Gopalakrishna Dwivedi and Commissioner Girija Shankar appeared before the court as per the directions given by the bench during the last hearing.The next hearing adjourned to May 24.
