AP govt replaces Sortex rice with fortified rice in Anganwadi centers

Dr.Kritika Shukla, Director, State Department of Women Development and Child Welfare, said that from this month, Sortex rice will be replaced by nutritious fortified rice to children, pregnant women and lactating mothers in Anganwadi Centers in AP.A recent statement said that the AP state government has taken steps to ensure that the rice is supplied through the Civil Supplies Agency.Fortified rice contains micronutrients as well as iron, which helps prevent anaemia g and provides folic acid, which helps in the development of the fetus in the womb.

Vitamin B – 12 is essential for strengthening the nervous system.

The statement said that this program will benefit 7.15 lakh pregnant and lactating women and 9.66 lakh children across the state.At the field level, the project directors directed the CDPOs to give appropriate instructions and conduct a wide publicity campaign on the benefits of this rice.All the beneficiaries affiliated with the Anganwadi Centers are advised to avail this facility for good health.

Kritika Shukla reminded that the government is implementing YSR Sampurna Poshana and YSR Sampurna Poshana Plus schemes to prevent anaemia and malnutrition among the beneficiaries of 55,607 Anganwadi Centers in the state.
