Kolkata 15 Aug : Trinamool Congress strongman and the party’s Birbhum district president, Anubrata Mondal, is thrilled to hear that the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is not too happy for his detention by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the cattle smuggling case. The following day, Banerjee gave a clear hint of not being too hard in her position on Mondal despite having taken a firm position against Partha Chatterjee who is currently in surveillance by the courts as the chief suspect in the multi-crore fraud involving teacher recruitment.
On Monday, Mondal’s lawyer Anirban Guha Thakurta sat with Mondal at the CBI’s Nizam Palace office in central Kolkata and informed him on the latest developments regarding this case.
After the meeting with Mondal the counsel for his client told media that the client is pleased with the fact that the Chief Minister has supported his position on this issue.
“Mondal said to me that he is certain that the top leader of the party will be be on his side during this time of crisis. He also stated that he has no connections with the cattle smuggling fraud.
My client isn’t in the best physical shape. However, it appeared that he was gaining a lot of his self-confidence,” Guha Thakurta said.
On Sunday, as he addressed an event in the south Kolkata, Banerjee questioned as the reason Mondal was arrested by the CBI.
“Why are they detained Mondal? What did he done? I am not opposed to central agencies investigating genuine cases. The Union government has always been against Mondal. In every election, he is kept under house arrest. His arrest could bring about the birth of many thousands of Mondals,” Banerjee declared.
In the meantime, CPI(M) central committee member Md Salim stated that by assisting Mondal the Chief Minister has in fact backed the other anti-social and rowdy elements in the party.
“The Chief Minister’s remarks are a clear indication that the government will be supportive of those who engage in illegal actions,” Salim said.
