Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy led Disha Act has found a hurdle at the Central Government.

The law which made to provide justice to rape victims within 21 days, has been put on hold to avoid legal complications.

The state Assembly has passed the Disha Act or the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law act 2019 in December last year.

According to the law, the complete investigation; trials in separate courts; and announcing sentences regarding a rape or murder case, should be completed within 21 days. However, it requires IPC, CPC and Central government permission to execute the bill in the state.

Although the Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy personally wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi regarding the Act, the Centre has put it on hold owing to legal complications.According to the reports, the Central government has declared that it is not possible to approve the Act in its present form.

Reportedly, the Union law ministry objected saying it is not possible to make changes only for a particular state. If that happens, every state may ask for special laws which are prepared according to their requirements.
