An old man named Laungi Bhuiyan in Bihar has carved out a 3 km-long canal on his own to angle the rainwater flowing down from hills to village fields in Kothilawa of Bihar.

He dedicated 30 years of his age to dig the canal as no one from the village helped him.

The livelihood of villagers depends majorly on farming and animal husbandry.Yet most villagers chose to take the path of cities to earn a livelihood. But, Bhuiyan did not.Daily he would go to the nearby jungle to feed his cattle, and in the meantime, dug out the canal. His commitment has paid off, and all the villagers are now praising the efforts of Bhuiyan.

They have said the canal will benefit a large number of animals and people in the village.

Bhuiyan’s story reminds another endeavour of a man called Dashrath Manjhi from Bihar.

He had spent his 22 years of age for the sake of carving out a path on the hills. He did it because his wife died of falling off a mountain.

Bollywood has also made a film on his life titled “Manjhi – The Mountain Man” starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
