New Delhi (12/12/2008) In the midst of a heated debate with opposition groups over the suspension of 12 MPs in Parliament, Monday’s Rajya Sabha will examine ‘The High Court and Supreme Court Judges – Salaries and Conditions of Service Amendment Bill 2021’.This amendment was already passed by the Lok Sabha.
The High Court and Supreme Court Judges (Salaries & Conditions of Service Amendment Bill) 2021 alters the salaries and conditions of service for judges of higher judiciary.They also provide an extra quantum of pension and family pension when they reach a specific age according to a prescribed scale.
The Bill provides that the Bill authorizes the payment of an additional amount of pension for retired judges of High Courts or Supreme Courts when they reach the age of 85, 90 and 95, depending on the circumstances.
The Rajya Sabha bulletin says, “Kiren Rijiju to move that the Bill further to amend the High Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1954 and the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1958, as passed by Lok Sabha, be taken into consideration.Also to move that the Bill be returned.”
Apart from this the report of the parliamentary standing committee on housing & urban affairs, labour and textile, and welfare of Scheduled Caste and Tribes will also be presented to the House.
