On Friday, the walkathon will be resumed from the same village.

The farmers and women continued the march, despite the intermittent drizzles, for the last few days.

The organisers stopped the march for one day due to heavy rains forecast.

The walkathon, which was titled “court to temple”, began November 1 and ended at Tirupati.

Protesters raise slogans like “Jai Amaravati” and cover 10-15km every day.

The foot march passed through Guntur and reached Prakasam last week.To show solidarity, villagers are joined by farmers along the way.

Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi leaders and the Amaravati Joint Action Committee, (JAC), claim they receive a lot of support from women, farmers and other segments of society.

They demanded the State government abandon its plans to trifurcate the capital of the state and keep Amaravati the sole capital.

This mega-walkathon began in Thulluru and will end at Tirupati, on December 17.

For the next month, the walkathon will be continuing to Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala. It will pass through 70 villages in Guntur and Prakasam districts, Nellore and Chittoor.

All political parties support the ‘Mahapadyatra, except the ruling YSR Congress Party YSRCP.However, the YSRCP described N Chandrababu Naidu, Leader of Opposition and TDP President, as a ploy to organize the foot march.

For 700 days, Amaravati farmers protested against plans by the State government to trifurcate the capital.Their protest reached a new stage with the ‘Mahapadyatra.

The YSR Congress Party government, led by YS Jawan Mohanreddy, has taken the decision to move the administrative capital from Visakhapatnam to Kurnool and the judicial capital from Kurnool to its governing body.Amaravati will remain the only legislative capital.
