Umar Kremlev, president of AIBA, stated that “AiBA has made continued advances in terms of financial and sporting integrity as well as good Governance.” Professor Haas and his team independent legal experts have guided us in the right direction so that we can achieve best practice governance for international federations.I salute my fellow Board members for the bold and unanimous statement they made today.

All AIBA Member Federations are urged to review the changes recommended and to make a decision in the best interest of our sport and our athletes.Boxing should always be the first priority.”

The GRG independent report recommended that the number of AIBA Board of Directors member be reduced.Today, it was agreed to reduce the Board’s size to 18 members, with the addition of 10 Special Members.

Comprehensive eligibility checks will be added to those for the 2022 AIBA election. To ensure the best possible leadership team, they will be joined by skills assessment.

These developments include the establishment of an independent Boxing Integrity Unit that will be empowered with the ability to address issues such as harassment, competition manipulation, abuse, and eligibility checks for election candidates.

Financial controls will be improved by changes to the structure of the Finance Committee and Audit Committee.

It has been suggested that the roles of advice in finance and audit should be clearly defined.

GRG also suggested the creation of a new interdisciplinary Strategy Committee to review AIBA’s long-term strategy and develop short-term and mid-term goals.

“The proposed Constitutional Amendments will significantly improve AIBA’s governance, with a focus on integrity, democracy and checks and balances. The final report and the list of top priorities are based on widely accepted benchmarks for integrity and good governance, including those from ASOIF and IPACS.

Although they have yet to be approved, the decision of the AIBA Board of Directors adopting the measures suggested by our group can definitely serve as a basis to real and positive changes,” stated Professor Haas.

The Board of Directors recommends to Congress that elections be held no later than June 20, 2022.

These elections could be held during the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, Istanbul. However, the Board will determine the exact date on 31 December 2021.

There are significant changes expected, including a provision that selects candidates for the governing bodies and committees based upon new eligibility criteria.
