New Delhi, Nov 30, : , Admiral R.Hari Kumar assumed the role of Chief of Naval Staff.He is a Gunnery specialist who advocates integrated theatre commands.After a distinguished career that spanned over forty-one years in the Indian Navy, he succeeds Admiral Karambir Singh.
Admiral Kumar is a graduate of the prestigious National Defence Academy Khadakwasla.

“It is an honor to be the Chief of Naval Staff.

Admiral Kumar stated that the Indian Navy’s main focus is on our maritime interests and challenges.He received the Guard of Honour at South Block in the capital.

On January 1, 1983, he was commissioned into Indian Navy.His 38-year career has seen him command the Coast Guard Ship C-01, IN Ships Nishank and Kora, Ranvir, and the Aircraft Carrier INS Viraat.

He is a Gunnery specialist and has held many key positions, including Fleet Operations Officer and Fleet Gnery Officer for Western Fleet, Executive Officer at INS Vipul, Gunnery officer of INS Ranjit and commissioning GO of INS Kuthar.

His shore assignments include Command Gunnery Officer at HQWNC and Naval Advisor to Government of Seychelles.

He also served as UN Mission in Somalia II at Mogadishu, Training Commander at INS Dronacharya.

He was a Flag Officer and served as Commandant at the Naval War College in Goa, Flag officer Sea Training, Flag officer Commanding Western Fleet, Chief Of Staff, Western Naval Command, Controller Personnel Services, and Chief of Personnel at Naval Headquarters.

He was also the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff for the Chairman Chiefs Of Staff Committee, at the crucial junction during the creation of the Department of Military Affairs and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

Before assuming the role of Chief of the Naval Staff, he was Flag Officer Commanding in-Chief at WNC Mumbai.
