London 7th September : Do you like to sit for hours watching your favorite TV show? Find out more.A standing desk at home or at work and an active lifestyle, could lower the risk of breast cancer according to a new study.Scientists have discovered a link between being active and less chance of breast cancer. They say that exercising and reducing sitting down significantly reduces the chance of women having breast cancer.
“More widespread acceptance of active lifestyles can lower the burden of the most prevalent cancer in women,” they stated in an article released in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Breast cancer is a condition in which the cells in the breast expand out of control and eventually become anything from painful to fatal.
The study examined information from 130,957 women of European ancestry.
Of those, 69,838 had tumors that were beginning to spread , and 6,667 had cancers that was not yet doing yet, and were compared with the group of control of 54,452 women who were not diagnosed with breast cancer.
The researchers identified genes that are linked to the absence of physical activity and sedentary habits throughout a life time. This helped them identify lifestyle factors that could have affected previous studies, thereby finding the link between them.
Although the study didn’t specifically refer to standing desks, the results revealed that people with genetic variations that were linked to a vigorous lifestyle had a lower risk of developing the various types of breast cancer by 40.
People with genes that indicated they sat longer periods of time had a greater risk of 104 percent of triple negative breast cancer – the most difficult to treat form of the cancer.
The results were similar across hormone-positive tumor types that tend to develop more quickly than breast cancers with hormone receptors for progesterone or oestrogen. It also provides “strong evidence’ that a greater amount of physical exercise and less time sitting can reduce the risk of breast cancer.
