Kolkata 5 Sep : The Enforcement Directorate (ED), investigating the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment fraud on Monday, detained another middleman identified as Subrata Malakar.

This is the third middleman who was to be arrested in the scam, but the first one was arrested by the ED.Two middlemen, named Pradeep Singh and Prasanna Roy, were detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation.Roy is the cousin of the former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinamool Congress Secretary General, Partha Chatterjee who is currently in the judicial system for his possible involvement in the fraud.

Malakar was recognized in his area as a chartered accountant who was a professional.Around 8 a.m.on Monday, a group of ED investigators arrived at his residence in Sodepur in North 24 Parganas district.The problem was that he did not reside at the home and the ED officials demanded his wife contact him and request him to come back as soon as possible.

After he returned, ED detectives began interviewing him, and after more than six hours of long-running grilling, he was finally taken into custody.

The ED detectives also found bank passbooks, accounts statements of accounts, and other documents from his place of work.Transfers of huge amount from these accounts were tracked down from these accounts.

“We asked Malakar about these transactions , including the source of the funds used for these transactions.But, we didn’t receive any satisfactory answers, we ended up bringing him to court,” an ED official stated.

In the meantime an extra CBI court was held on Monday afternoon extended the CBI custody of Roy for a further four days, until September 9.
