Mumbai 29 Aug : Actress Sargun Mehta who has made her mark in the Punjabi film industry and will be seen in “Cuttputli” with Akshay Kumar, Rakul Preet Singh, Chandrachur Singh.Produced by Ranjit Tiwari, this film will be Sargun’s OTT debut.
She discusses this and is working on an Hindi project after an absence of seven years.
Sargun declares: “I am very excited to begin my OTT series and to do something in Hindi after a lengthy absence of seven years .There’s a huge market for thrillers and that’s why I decided to create something different and a strong character.I am optimistic about the end result and am eagerly awaiting the reaction of the audience.”
In addition to shedding light on the role, she says: “It is a very intense role.I was very nervous due to having to perform scenes with Akshay.
He already has a powerful presence in my head because I’ve been following him for a long time.
“There are moments in the films when I must overpower him in terms of telling him what to do and not to do.I had prepare myself mentally to forget about him and take my shot in a manner that is appropriate.I’m playing a cop for the first time.
“People typically practice their roles or watch other performances if the same character was performed before but I didn’t do that since I wanted to perform it in the Sargun manner.”
What is it that makes ‘Cuttputlli’ stand out in a murder mystery?
Sargun says: “When I heard the script, I couldn’t even guess who the culprit was and I believe this is the way a good mystery plays out.You’re constantly contemplating where this film will take you .Later, it led me in a completely new direction that I think was quite amazing.”
What she learned while working with Akshay, she said: “It was super amazing to meet Akshay in person.The first time I met him, I was too quiet , so he would tell me “tu bolti nahi hai kya” (Don’t you ever speak?) and I wondered what should I do to inform him that I am so afraid.I’m going to say he helps his actors feel comfortable and it is extremely simple to collaborate with his co-actors.”
“Even during the set while shooting he will make it easy for you.He is very grateful and always offers a free chance to improve.
“Also the most remarkable aspect of shooting with him is that it’s his routine that the entire team must eat dinner in order to ensure the bond among the group remains strong.”
After “Cuttputli,” her Punjabi film ‘Moh’ will be scheduled to release on September 16.
