Guwahati 23 August : A lower court in Guwahati has summoned Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to appear before the court in connection with an action for defamation brought by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Kamrup in Guwahati has requested Sisodia to appear in court on the 29th of September.
On the 4th of June Manish Sisodia at a press conference in Delhi claimed that the Assam government had awarded contracts to the company of Sarma’s wife to provide PPE kits at prices above market prices for the covid-19 pandemic outbreak in the nation in March 2020.
Sarma was at the time Minister of Health and Family Welfare Minister in Sarbananda Sonowal’s government in Assam.
However the Chief Minister Sarma and his wife have denied the allegations.
Sarma claimed that his wife didn’t spend a penny on the stock of PPE kit.She donated them to the state health department because there was an acute shortage of PPE kit at the time.
Then the Assam Chief Minister filed an indictment of criminal defamation against Sisodia.
The wife of Sisodia Riniki Bhuyan Sarma filed an Rs 100 crore defamation suit against the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister.
