Auger-Aliassime outlasts Sinner to advance to Cincinnati quarters

Cincinnati 19th August : Cincinnati, Aug 19 : of the top 10 seeds at the Western & Southern Open collided on Thursday when Felix Auger-Aliassime beat Jannik Sinner 2-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-1.
It was Sinner who looked the sharpest in the beginning and took the opening three games of the first set before getting a double break, however, while Auger-Aliassime struggled to take on with Italy’s serve in the beginning, it wasn’t the case as the match went into the second set, DPA reports.

Sinner was able to score 80 per cent (12-of-15) of his first serve points in the first set, but the percentage decreased to 62 per percent in the second set and 50 percent in the third as Auger Aliassime took over the match and then roared home late.

Auger-Aliassime will play the excellent Borna Coric in the quarterfinals after the Croatian added to his shocking surprise win over Rafael Nadal by defeating 15th seed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 7-6.

Fourth-ranked world Carlos Alcaraz was incredibly impressive against heavy-serving Marin Cilic, finding an extra gear in the second set to win with 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 win.

It was equally impressive work of the world’s number seven Stefanos Tsitsipas, creating 14 break point opportunities in his 6-3, 6-3 thrashing of Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.

In an all-American battle, It was 37-year old John Isner beating 22-year-old Sebastian Korda 7-6 (7-3) 7-6, 1-6, (7-4) in yet another victory for Isner without breaking his opponent’s serve even a single time.

The last match of the evening was quick, as the world’s number 11 Cameron Norrie needed just 59 minutes to beat American qualifying player Ben Shelton 6-0, 6-2.
