Bhubaneswar 18 Aug : Paradip Port has been at the forefront in successfully completing a number of public-private partnership (PPP) projects that cost more than three million rupees recently Shantanu Thakur, MoS for ports as well as waterways, shipping and ports.
These PPP projects have led to capacity addition of 55 MTPA at the port, said Thakur while virtually addressing the Maritime Public-Private-Partnership Conclave 2022 organised by Paradip Port Authority here on Thursday.

He was hoping that as part of Vision India 2047, Paradip port will evolve to become a world-class mega port with more than 750 million tonnes of annual (mtpa) capacity in 2047.

The port recently awarded the Western Dock Project of 25 MTPA capacity for a cost of 2392 crores rupees.The initial section of this project to provide 12.5 MTPA capacity will be completed in three years and the whole project will be completed in five years.

When it is completed this will allow Paradip port to be able to handle large cape-sized vessels with up to 18.5 meters of draft, according to an official from the port.

Thakur reaffirmed the fact that Central government, under the direction of Premier Narendra Modi is putting emphasis on attracting private investment into the port sector in order to bring in the new technology and improve management practices to increase the amount of capacity and improvement of operational efficiency for India’s largest ports.

At the event, P.L.Haranadh the chairman of Paradip Port Authority said that with the aim of achieving an estimated five trillion dollar Indian economy in 2025 The port sector will expand up to 2.3 billion tonnes of year (BTPA) traffic in 2026.

Haranadh further stated that Paradip port is planned to grow to the largest port in the world with 750+ MTPA capacity by 2047.

A total of 80 MTPA capacity enhancement initiatives have been identified as being completed in the past four-year period.

Other capacity enhancement projects are being considered and driven by port-led industrialisation as well as adequate connectivity to ports, he added.

Eastern India has a lot of potential for growth in polymer, steel and plastic.Ports in Dhamra, Gopalpur, Subarnarekha and Paradip including the planned Mahanadi Riverine Port have huge potential for growth, said Hemant Sharma, the chief secretary, department of industries.
