Thiruvananthapuram August 18, : In the wake of the Covid pandemic causing two consecutive Onam celebrations the Kerala government decided on Thursday to have large Onam celebrations from September 6-12 throughout the state, as per the Tourism Minister P.A.Mohamed Riyas. The festival will be arranged by the state Tourism Department, he said.
Signifying that the celebration is returning, Riyas opened the Festival Office of the Onam Celebrations Here.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the celebrations in an elaborate ceremony that will be held at Nishagandhi open-air theatre on Kanakakunnu Palace grounds on September 6.
“This year’s Onam celebrations are designed on a grand scale as the world is returning to normality, having overcome the depressing effects of the Covid-19.Nowis the time to smile again, forgetting the tragedy and sadness brought on by the pandemic.
In the entire state, Onam will be celebrated in an appropriate manner.Apart from the capital of the state celebrations will be held across the state including all sectors” Riyas said.Riyas.
Minister of General Education and Labour V.Sivankutty declared that traditional art forms will be given prominence in the cultural programs of the festivities.
And the most coveted product, which made it’s appearance in the yesteryears everywhere -the swing that was traditionally there, and both Riyas and Sivankutty were seen helping each other to sit down on the swing and take the ride.
