Islamabad 16 August : Nawaz Sharif, PML-N’s supremo as well as PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday retracted their support of the Shehbaz Sharif government’s decision to raise the price of petroleum products, while Finance Minister Miftah Ismail argued an argument in support of the move, reports in the media said.In separate speeches, the two principal political leaders criticized the government for increasing prices that were increased on Monday despite an enormous increase in the value of the rupee and an overall decrease in the international price of oil, The News reported.
Concerned about the developments of the situation, the former president Asif Ali Zardari said that the PPP is an integral component of the state and is in support but there should be consultations regarding such decisions.
“We are all in this in this government to provide relief to people, and that should be our first priority. We’re with the prime minister , and will soon meet with him and discuss the economic team,” he added, The News reported.
On Monday the Pak government increased the cost of petrol by the equivalent of 6.72 per litre for the next fortnight.
“In the context of the fluctuations in the price of petroleum in the world market as well as fluctuations in exchange rates the government has made the decision to change the prices or petroleum products in order to transfer the impact to people who purchase them,” the statement released by the Finance Division read.
The decision of the government has prompted an array of critique from the general public. The majority of people are of the view that costs of petroleum-based products are falling throughout the world, yet, their costs are raised in Pakistan.
As users expressed their opinions on the decision of the government, a user on Twitter tweeted Maryam Nawaz and requested her to “speak to Mian Nawaz Sharif to take note of the rise in the cost of gasoline”.
In response to the user Maryam posted: “Mian Sahib strongly opposed this decision. He even stated that I should not burden people with the payment ofone cent.”
She claimed that her father had repeatedly stressed that he was not on board , but should the government be subject to some kind of constraint it should proceed with the hike.Maryam stated that the PML-N supremo was against the POL increase decision and walked out of the room, The News reported.
