Shillong 15 August, Shillong : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K.Sangma on Monday stated that the state ranks among the top three, along with Telangana as well as Kerala in the child immunisation of children.
The health and economic well-being of women has been given the top priority, and the infant mortality rate of Meghalaya has decreased from 33 in 2018 to 29 in 2022 The Chief Minister announced this after raising the flag of the nation on the occasion of Independence Day at the Polo Grounds here.

He said that at a minimum, one woman in every rural household is a member of the Self-Help Group and they are engaging in different enterprise and livelihood activities.

Sangma declared: “I started the YESS Meghalaya program to provide financial assistance up to one lakh rupees to every youth organization in Meghalaya.This will enable our youth organizations to play a an integral contribution in helping to make Meghalaya more effective.”

He stated that the state government will provide the producer household to help Athem in production with the FOCUS and FOCUS plus schemes.

“With this money farmers can solve their issues through local decentralised action.We also offer free seeds, establishing processing units , and offering marketing assistance.”

Sangma stated that Meghalaya was awarded the ‘United Nations 4 World Summit on the Information Society Award in Switzerland for technological innovation in governance.”It was an experience of immense satisfaction for me when I got the award on my own.”

Meghalaya is also ranked as the top performer along with Gujarat as well as Karnataka in the National Startup Rankings for 2021.This means that, among smaller states Meghalaya has the most favorable business environment.

We have been able to score very well in the NITI Aayog’s innovation index, he said.

According to Sangma the multilateral donors such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank and other organizations like the IKEA foundation and Amazon India are partnering with and investing in the State and its entrepreneurs.

Claiming that Meghalaya is implementing India’s largest piggery mission, the Chief Minister said that in the state there is an annual production-consumption gap of approximately 10,000 tonnes of pork and valued at Rs 300 crore.

The piggery mission would bridge the gap of production-consumption and provide increased nutritional security and better incomes for our farmers.

On the celebration of Independence Day, a massive cultural celebration took place in Meghalaya Raj Bhavan in which the Governor Satya Pal Malik and the Chief Minister, among others were present.

It was also observed throughout the hill state with numerous events and performances.
