Washington 12th, August : A man armed who attempted to break into an Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) field office in the US city of Cincinnati was killed by police after an argument.The suspect attempted to break into the security of the visitor screening area in the office at 9.15 a.m.on Thursday morning, as per an official statement by the Federal Law Enforcement Agency.
The man was spotted by police officers near Wilmington where they exchanged fire in the course of which he “was killed and died” in the afternoon, Xinhua news agency reported the statement as saying.
The FBI has said that it was “reviewing the shooting involving an agent”.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol tweeted troopers and police officers “attempted to bargain with the suspect in order to bring the standoff to an conclusion” during the day.
“Once negotiations failed, officers tried to arrest the suspect with less lethal methods,” the police said.
“The suspect pulled out a gun and was shot by law enforcement personnel.The suspect died from fatal injuries on the scene.”
Federal investigators are said to be looking into whether the male may have had connections to extremist groups of the far right.
The reason for this is not clear.
The incident occurred just several days following FBI agents were able to search the former US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida.
The operation on Monday was believed to be related to classified material that Trump is believed to have taken with his from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, at the time he quit the White House in January 2021.
Trump and his allies blasted the raid as a political ploy planned by Democrats while criticizing the FBI and the Department of Justice.
In response to the incident of Thursday, FBI Director Christopher Wray issued a statement stating the “attacks at the integrity of the FBI undermine respect for the rule of law”.
“Violence and threats to law enforcement, particularly the FBI are risky and should be of great concern for every one of us Americans,” Wray added.
