UN chief is gratified for peaceful vote in Kenyan elections

United Nations, Aug 11 : UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has congratulated the Kenyans of Kenya for their peaceful vote in Kenya’s general elections.
The UN chief “notes the significant work being done by Kenyan authorities and the electoral administration bodies, as well as the continuous involvement of numerous national stakeholders , and the unwavering determination of the Kenyan voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote” was the statement released by his spokesperson on Wednesday.

Guterres hopes that all political parties as well as the Kenyan people will continue to show the same degree of patience, calm and respect for the election process as they wait for the release of the outcomes of the elections in conformity with the legal deadline it said.

“The Secretary-General reiterates his willingness of the UN to continue to aid the efforts of the Kenyan authorities and Kenyans in the progress of the process of democratic change in Kenya,” said the statement.

Kenyan citizens have cast their ballots on Tuesday to choose their fifth President, as and representatives of the National Assembly, Senators and county governors, Xinhua news agency reported.

The head of Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced on Tuesday night that the voting in the general elections in Kenya was completed in all polling stations , and counting had begun.
