Chennai 10th August : Director and actor Sasikumar on Wednesday felicitated fencing champion C.A.Bhavani Devi for winning an award at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in London. She was awarded the medal after by defeating her Australian opponent in the senior women’s sabre category.
On Twitter, Sasikumar, who directed the Tamil iconic film ‘Subramaniapuram” tweeted: “Congrats Bhavani Devi! Individual gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships 2022 London.” Bhavani Devi came into the limelight last year when she was the first Indian to be selected to compete in the Olympics in the sport of fencing.
It is not widely known that Sasikumar was a patron of Chadalavada Anandha Sundhararamana Bhavani Devi financially to help her achieve her dream of becoming the world champion in fencing.
Bhavani who is from an upper-middle class family in Washermanpet in Chennai, was approached seven years ago by the actor to raise money to help her learn to compete in an event for fencing in Italy.
Sasikumar was then able to help Bhavani by donating her with Rs 2 lakh.Now, he can look back at the gesture with feeling of satisfaction.
