Montreal (Canada) August 9 : Pablo Carreno Busta defeated the debutant Matteo Berrettini in the first round of National Bank Open, here on Tuesday. The Spaniard who was defeated by Berrettini in straight sets in the fourth round of this year’s Australian Open, avenged that loss with the 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The 26-year-old Berrettini is working on getting back from his March hand surgery that has left him with just four matches in the time since Indian Wells.Covid-19 has also forced him to not play Wimbledon.
Busta was able to take full advantage with an uncompromising display of constant aggressiveness.The Spaniard kept his opponent from establishing the right rhythm without putting himself in danger.
After getting a second break in the second set the 31-year old let out an enormous roar of excitement knowing that the final score was in sight.
In a contest of the former Top 10 players in the ATP Rankings, Busta did not even have a break point and won after just one hour and 17 minutes.
Six-time ATP Tour titlist will next play Next Gen ATP Dane Holger Rune or Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini.
