Panaji 9 August : Elections to the village panchayats of 186 in Goa will take place on Wednesday with 5,038 hopefuls in the fray, representing 1,464 Wards.
According to the State Election Commissioner W.V.Ramanamurthy the the counting of votes will begin on the 12th of August.

While the panchayats of 186 villages in Goa comprise an overall of 1,528 wards 64 candidates have been elected without opposition.

A total of 8,27,099 eligible voters are able to vote which includes 4,01,725 male voters and 4,25,372 female voters as well with two of the third gender.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has reserved 21 seats (1.37 percent) for Schedule Castes and seats 187 (12.32 per percent) for Schedule Tribes, and 307 seats (20.10 percent) for Other Backward Classes.

Along with an adequate police force In addition, more than 10,000 polling personnel are in place to ensure the smooth running of the election.About 30 percent of 1,566 booths for voting have been identified as being vulnerable and sensitive.
