A free screening of “Gandhi” begins in theaters throughout Telangana

Hyderabad 9th August : “Free screening of the Oscar-winning film of 1982 “Gandhi” started in 552 theaters all over Telangana on Tuesday.
The film in Telugu as well as Hindi will be shown at 10 a.m.until 1.15 p.m.every day from August 9 through August 22.

The government of the state has come up with elaborate arrangements for the no-cost of screening of “Gandhi,” which stars Ben Kingsley in the title role.

Officials have said that 22 lakh schoolchildren are expected to view the film in theaters.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and the special chief secretary for urban development Arvind Kumar, participated in the film screening on the day of its debut in a theatre in Attapur in Hyderabad.

Produced by Richard Attenborough, ‘Gandhi’ is a biographical film that focuses on the life of Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom movement, which followed his life from 1893 until 1948.

Co-produced by India as well as the United Kingdom, the movie was released in India on the 30th of November 1982.

It was nominated 11 times during the 55th Academy awards, and won eight awards, including best picture best director, best and the best actor (for Kingsely).

The screening of “Gandhi” is a part of the ‘Swatantra Bharatha Vjrotsava Dw Sapthaham’ which is a two-week-long celebrations organized by the Telangana government to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence.

Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday officially launched the celebrations in an elaborate ceremony at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) by raising the national flag.

In his address on the occasion he encouraged the crowd to denounce the efforts to denigrate the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s image as a world leader and to fight the shady plots being devised to split India.”Attempts are being used to divide the nation by dividing it into communal groups to gain political gain,” he said

There is no country in the world would ever want to portray its history in negative light.Unfortunately, we are witnessing situations in our country where people are trying to discredit and degrade the image of the world’s most famous leader like Mahatma Gandhi.This is a shady trend that must be condemned by all people,” CM KCR said
