Guwahati 6 Aug : A young boxer and wushu player from the state of Assam’s Moranhat who was imprisoned for being suspected of supporting the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) was granted parole by an official of a court, a source confirmed on Saturday.Maina Chutia, 23, was arrested after allegedly commenting on a post on Facebook, written in favor of the ULFA-I.
Director of the police of Charaideo district Yuvraj Saurav said to IANS that Chutia had expressed her desire through social media to sign up to ULFA-I and she was detained as per the laws of the state of the.
It has been reported that she had posted on Facebook: “If I get any link I will sign up to ULFA.I love ULFA I.”
A lower court in Charaideo district on Friday granted bail to Chutia.She was sentenced to more than one and a half months in the prison.
Her Facebook post was under the scrutiny of the cyber cell of police.
A team from the Moranhat police station went to the house of the athlete and detained her on the 17th of June.
After being released of the jail, Chutia said: “It was difficult to spend several days in prison, but I did learn a few things there.”
According to news reports, she would be participating in an upcoming wushu tournament scheduled to begin on the weekend in Guwahati.
It is worth noting that Barshashree’s Buragohain an undergraduate student from Jorhat was in prison for “supporting” the ULFA-I.
She was released by the Gauhati High Court.However, another youngster from the Sivsagar district Bitupan Changamai, is in jail for making comments on Barshashree’s post on Facebook.
