Ottawa 6 August : The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) confirmed 957 cases of monkeypox in the country. The health agency noted it had confirmed that of confirmed cases as of Friday the majority of cases come from Ontario 407 are from Quebec and 81 from British Columbia, 16 from Alberta and two from Saskatchewan and the Yukon, Xinhua news agency reported.
In the aftermath of the World Health Organization and the United States’ declaration of monkeypox as an emergency public health emergency there are questions being asked about whether Canada should follow suit.
A PHAC official claimed that the federal government had been treating monkeypox as a top priority since the beginning of the outbreak in May local media reported.
In the report the agency has delivered over the 80,000 doses of Imvamune vaccine to territories and provinces and is assisting in decentralized testing by supplying guidelines and control materials to lab partners across the country.
The experts say that monkeypox is a virus that can be transmitted from person to person by close contact with an infected person for example, through kisses, hugs massages, sexual contact or even sexual intercourse.
