New York, January 1, 2019 : .Stocks in America fell during the 2021 trading session. Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 59.78 point, or 0.16 percent, to 36.338.30.S&P 500 fell 12.55 points or 0.26 percent to 4,766.18.Nasdaq Composite Index fell 96.59 Points, or 0.61 Percent, to 15,644.97.
Six out of 11 S&P 500 primary sectors finished in green.Consumer staples was up 0.71 percent, surpassing all the others.Communications services, which was the lowest-performing sector, fell 1.21 percent.
Xinhua reported that US-listed Chinese stocks traded lower, with 8 of the 10 top weights in the S&P US Listed China50 index closing the day on a negative note.
Despite the recent volatility, all three major US averages reported double-digit returns in this year.
In 2021, the S&P 500 rose 26.9%.This was its third consecutive positive year.Also, the Dow and Nasdaq gained 18.7 percent and 21.4 percent, respectively, continuing their winning streaks of three years.
