Pathak tried to reform the club’s decades-old auditing system at the annual general meeting. However, more than 90 percent of members opposed it.Sources say that 711 of 738 club members voted against Pathak’s proposal at their December 23rd meeting. The Administrator’s report that estimated club losses at Rs.127 crore plus since 2009 was strongly opposed by several members.Pathak, a member of the club stated that he wants the club to be shown as a losing entity and ready for the Centre’s takeover.

The club sent a communication to its members saying that “The net result of this will mean that the club’s profit and loss accounts will show a Loss and the Club may then be presented as an entity capable of making losses and being taken over by the Government.” It would also lead to the wrongly indicting former Presidents, GC and GC for alleged frauds and serious financial irregularities. However, the club has not committed any irregularity through the adoption of this accounting process over many decades.

One member claimed that the Administrator cannot change the accounting procedures because he was only tasked with managing the club, and not changing its policies.

The communication stated that the members requested the Administrator to oppose the AGM resolution which was put forward for the passing of the Accounts and Director’s report.

On February 15, 2015, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal disbanded the general committee of the club and ordered the Centre to appoint an administrator to run its affairs.

This was after the Ministry of Corporate Affairs had moved for the tribunal to investigate allegations of corruption, mismanagement and nepotism within the club.

In a significant relief to the ex-general committee, the Supreme Court heard the appeals against the NCLAT order and remanded it back to the National Company Law Tribunal.

It asked for a resolution within the next four months.
