Jerusalem, 26 December : .Israel has announced a multimillion-dollar plan for the development of the Golan Heights.
This includes the creation of two additional settlements. According to an Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s statement, ministers approved a plan for strengthening Israeli settlements on the previously-Syrian territory.
According to Xinhua, the two new settlements Asif and Matar will be created with approximately 2,000 housing units each.
According to the office, the ministers decided to give 576 million shekels ($about $183 millions) for the construction of 7,300 housing units in Katzrin and Golan Regional Council over the next five-years.
It stated that the goal of this investment was to increase the population of Katzrin by two-thirds and the Golan Regional Council’s small towns by “significantly increasing” their number.
A total of 322 million shekels is expected to be spent on improving transport, education and health, as well as developing small and medium-sized businesses, research and development centers and tourism.
The Golan Heights were annexed by Israel to Syria during the 1967 Middle East War.However, the international community has not recognized this move.
In March 2019, former US President Donald Trump stated that Israel is sovereign over the Golan Heights.
The UN General Assembly confirmed Syria’s sovereignity over the Golan Heights, occupied since June 1967 by Israel.
