Dhaka, Dec 8, 2008 : Shakib Al Hazan, the all-rounder of the Indian cricket team, decided to forgo the series in favour of uncapped Fazle Mahmud in Bangladesh’s Test squad for New Zealand.
This is the left-handed batter’s maiden call-up for the Test squad.It comes after a stellar performance in the recently concluded National Cricket League, in which the 33 year-old was the top scorer with 630 runs at an averaging of 60.30.

Despite Shakib’s verbal communication to BCB indicating his inability to travel, he was included in the initial 18-member squad for the New Zealand tour.BCB later confirmed that Shakib had been granted leave.
