Huawei expands development of flagship foldable phones

Beijing, Dec 8, 2008 : Huawei plans to increase the development of flagship smartphones with foldable displays, in particular with P-series flagships.
While speaking about the future development in flagship mobile phones in Europe, Derek Yu, President of Huawei’s consumer business in Central, Eastern Europe, Northern Europe and Canada, stated that Huawei will continue to invest heavily in flagship mobile phones, particularly foldable screens.

GizChina reports that there is also the Mate and P series.

“We will continue investing in flagship smartphones, especially in the folding segment as well as in the Mate and P series.

Yu stated that the Shanghai Research and Development Centre (R&D Centre) ensures that the R&D team is able to continue developing Huawei’s technologies.

Yu also stated that the Shanghai R&D Centre is also working to develop 5G chips, which could mean that Huawei’s flagship smartphone could once again support 5G connectivity.

“We still have chipset designs capability and we still have the team based in Shanghai.The team is also continuing to hire new talent.

Yu stated that Huawei cannot manufacture the chipsets by itself.Therefore, we need to work with partners.

Huawei currently cannot buy 5G or 5G-related technology directly from American companies.This technology cannot be purchased from American companies.

Huawei will soon launch Harmony OS, its proprietary operating system — for its global users — next year.

The Huawei HarmonyOS is available in China as of right now on multiple devices.

This includes smartphones, smart home appliances, and many other products.
