Prices in Kolkata remained stable at Rs 89.79 versus Rs 104.67, respectively.

It was also unaffected in Chennai at Rs 91.43 per litre and Rs 101.40/litre, respectively.

The price of fuel was largely unchanged across the country on Wednesday, but retail rates varied depending upon the level of local taxes.

Notably, the fuel prices have remained relatively stable since Diwali, when the Centre and some other states reduced duties.

In his policy statement speech after the December meeting of Monetary Policy Committee, Shaktikanta Das, Governor of Reserve Bank of India, stated that “.

the reduction of Excise Duty and VAT on petrol or diesel will result in a durable decrease in inflation through both direct and indirect effects.

“Though crude oil prices have experienced some correction in recent periods, a durable containment would depend on strong global supply responses to match demand as pandemic restrictions relax,” he said.
