New Delhi, Dec 6 : The mastermind of the pirated NCERT textbooks racket has been arrested, nearly three months after huge quantities of finished and semi-finished books were recovered during a raid in the national capital, Delhi Police officials said on Monday.

The accused was identified as Abhishek Sachdeva.

According to the official, information was received that a publication unit involved in printing pirated NCERT books is operating in trans-Yamuna area and the poor quality pirated books are being supplied in market at cheaper rates, causing huge revenue loss to NCERT.The police stated that the offset unit was publishing pirated NCERT books ranging from Class 6-12.

A police team was formed to investigate the information.The NCERT Director was also approached to assist in uncovering the entire nexus.

A raid was conducted on September 18 with the NCERT’s production officer and vigilance officer at the publishing unit.The entire setup was discovered.

During the course of the investigation, Manoj Jain (a Shahdara resident) was arrested.He stated that he was printing these books for accused Sachdeva, who supplied the paper and other materials.

During interrogation, he disclosed that the printing material used in these books was procured by his late father and that he planned and used to sell these books online to customers.

The police have recovered 80,000 (approx.

) The police have recovered approximately 80,000 (approx.) printed sheets of paper from the which 12,000 pirated copies can be made, 166 metal plates that could be used to print infringed copies, two offset printing machines, 5,000 NCERT books and paper with NCERT watermark that was being used to print the pirated books.
