Manila, Dec 5, : A preliminary magnitude of 6.1 earthquake struck Davao Occidental in the southern Philippines on Sunday.This was according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. According to Xinhua news agency, the quake struck at a depth 156 km, approximately 285 km southeast Sarangani island.
According to the report, the quake was tectonic in its origin and will trigger aftershocks that are unlikely to cause damage.The quake was felt in Cateel, Occidental.
Due to its position along the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Philippines is subject to frequent seismic activity.
