However, it added that it would not be intimidated by such acts.

FC Goa stated that the club entered into a three year partnership with Salvador do Mundo Panchayat in order to build a stronger relationship with the community and create local hubs of football.

The MoU stipulated that two football fields were to be built by the club in the village. One ground was to be used by FC Goa’s first team as a practice ground, and the other was for the use of the panchayat and local residents.

The primary goal of both was to provide a good playing surface for the locals.

“However, on Sunday afternoon without any prior notice and in an effort to gain local political leverage,” the statement said.

The turf was dug up and then filled with concrete.According to the statement, the actions caused damage to the drainage and watering systems of the ground, making it unfit for football activities.

“The Club considers the panchayat’s claim that they are looking to build infrastructure for cricket via concrete pitches misleading. The club never received any communication about the same.

These actions violate the MoU signed.FC Goa will not be intimidated by these acts.It will endeavor to explore all legal options to mitigate the matter as soon as possible,” it added.
