Srinagar : , The Jammu and Kashmir Police of the Union Territory’s Budgam District have recovered an ancient statue of Goddess Durga, according to police on Tuesday. The police stated that a team of officials from the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums was called to examine the sculpture recovered at the Budgam district police station.
“During examination, it was discovered that the Goddess Durga sculpture recovered from the temple dates back to approximately 7th AD (roughly 1,300 years).
The sculpture is made of black stone and features Goddess Durga sitting on a lion throne.
One part of the left arm is missing.The sculpture is also influenced by Gandhara School of Art.
The sculpture was officially handed over to Mushtaq Ahmed Beigh, Deputy director Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, and his team by Tahir Salem Khan, SSP Budgam.
This is the second statue of Goddess Durga that was found in Kashmir in 2021.
Jammu and Kashmir police rescued a 1,200-year-old sculpture of Goddess Durga in August.Labourers were removing sand from the Jehlum river in Pandthrethan, Srinagar when they found the sculpture.
