New Delhi, Nov 30, : , Sunil Gavaskar criticised New Zealand’s timid batting in the second Test at Kanpur’s Green Park stadium.Gavaskar stated that the visitors were not trying to win despite Tom Latham’s and William Somerville’s excellent platform.However, they managed to draw the match. India were only one wicket away of victory, but New Zealand’s batsmen Rachin Ravindra (NZ) and Ajaz Patel (NZ) played over 50 deliveries to help the Kiwis draw their Test.
“New Zealand held on to Kanpur by the skin of its teeth.India was brought back into the game by India’s timid batting.
They then began to take wickets in the second session.However, once they realized that the visitors were not looking for victory, Gavaskar wrote for TOI.
Gavaskar believes that New Zealand had the shutters blown down completely, which allowed Ajinkya Rahane, the Indian skipper to attack.
“Rahane and Dravid might have been a little worried at lunchtime, for Latham, Somerville had created a platform for the next batsmen to play their regular game and take New Zealand home.Inexplicably, the shutters were taken down.It did not do anything but allow Rahane and his men to catch,” Gavaskar added.
Gavaskar, 72 years old, concluded by saying that this draw will make an impact as the Test series continues.A place in the final of World Test Championship (WTC2) is at stake.
He said that both finalists have a chance to reach the finals of World Test Championships.Sharing the points will make a difference in the series.
