Panasonic confirms data breach, probing cyber attack

New Delhi, Nov 30, : , The Japanese consumer electronics company Panasonic confirmed that an illegal third party accessed its network on November 11.
The company did not provide any additional information, but Japanese publications Mainichi (NHK) claimed that the breach began on June 22nd and ended on November 3rd.

NHK reported that the servers were able to store information about Panasonic business partners as well as the company’s technology.

Panasonic stated in a statement that it was discovered that some files on a file server were accessed during the intrusion.

Panasonic explained that the company detected the unauthorised access and immediately reported it to the authorities.They also implemented security countermeasures including steps to prevent external access to their network.

Panasonic stated that it is conducting its own investigation and working with a specialist third party organisation to investigate the leak to determine if customers’ personal data was compromised.

In March, the Japanese company signed a pact to McAfee, a cyber security company, to establish a cyberattacks-focused security operations center.

Panasonic stated to Mainichi publication that while it is impossible to predict how the incident will impact our business or business performance in the future, they cannot deny the possibility for a serious incident.
