Justice NV Ramana, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, has expressed concern over the rising incidence of diabetes in the country.Despite spending millions of rupees on cancer, kidney and heart diseases, Justice Ramana described diabetes as a ‘silent pandemic’ that is affecting mostly the poor.
Speaking at an awareness program on diabetes, Justice Ramana made sensational suggestions to state governments.Justice NV Ramana pointed out that the state government did not provide subsidies for the treatment of diabetes.
The CJI suggested that governments subsidize the treatment of people with diabetes.
Justice NV Ramana reminded that the diabetes treatment has become very costly and is affecting, especially the poor in the country.
Covid patients with diabetes are at a high risk of death.CJI Ramana opined that India-centric studies on diabetes should be started immediately in India to protect people from diabetes.
CJI NV Ramana said that diabetes is a result of the modern lifestyle.CJI Ramana said that India needs to research on diabetes to eradicate the silent epidemic permanently.
Also, he demands the governments subsidize the treatment of people with diabetes.
