Chennai, Nov 29, : As Omicron variant coronavirus is spreading internationally, the Tamil Nadu government said Monday that passengers from European and other countries will need to go through RT-PCR testing and will only be allowed to return home after a negative report. The government also stated that passengers from the 12 regions must be kept in isolation for seven days, and that they must undergo another RTPCR test on their eighth day of arrival.
The government states that passengers will need to continue to monitor their health for seven more days.
Patients who have contracted the virus are expected to be treated in government hospitals.
Their samples will then be sent for genomic sequencing to determine if there has been any mutation.
The countries and region include Europe, including the UK, South Africa, Botswana and Hong Kong, China and South Africa.
Tamil Nadu government stated that passengers from these countries should inform primary health centres or call 104.4 to report Covid-19 symptoms.Those who were in contact will need to be traced back and treated.
Five percent of passengers on flights from other countries will need to be subject to RT-PCR testing.
