Bhopal, Nov 29, : Monday saw the death of yet another big cat in Madhya Pradesh.This brings the total to 40 in the state so far this year, which is the highest in the country.
A 10-year-old tigress died in the latest incident after she was rescued from the Bandhavgarh Tiger reserve (BTR) in Umaria.

According to the forest official, T-66, the dead tigress was spotted in Panpatha and Khitoli buffer zones of the reserve over the past month.

IANS was informed by the official that a forest team was continuously monitoring the carnivore, and it seemed unable to hunt its prey because of some serious injuries.

Official said that the feline was rescued from Khitoli on November 26th and brought to Baherha enclosure.

There, a team from Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University in Jabalpur was treating the tigress.

“The tigress was found starving and injured.

Forest officials released a statement Monday saying that while efforts were made to feed the tigress, they could not make it eat.

An autopsy was performed later and the carcasses were disposed according to the instructions of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.Statement read.

This new death means that Madhya Pradesh, also known as the “tiger state” and home to renowned reserves like Kanha Tiger Reserves, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserves, Pench Tiger Reserves, Satpura Tiger Reserve, Satpura Tiger Reserve, and Panna Tiger Reserve, has reported 40 big cats as missing between January 1 and November 29.

Last week, the Madhya Pradesh High Court issued notices for the Centre and State governments along with Forest and National Tiger Conservation Authority to address the increasing number of tigers dying in Madhya Pradesh.
