Bengaluru, Nov 29, : , On Monday, Karnataka resident doctors & interns boycotted all services in Out Patient Department (OPD), and other services in all government hospitals across the state demanding immediate release and fulfillment of other demands. Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors had called for a protest, urging the government to immediately release Covid risk allowance and pay stipends for postgraduates and interns.
The association also demanded that academic fees be restructured.
The association claims that the Karnataka government has not released Covid Risk Allowance even six months after providing assurance.
This is why they are resorting indefinite strike.
Over a year, medicos and health workers waged war against the Covid pandemic by offering their lives.
The government had promised Rs 10,000 monthly allowance for all resident doctors starting in April 2021, but has yet to release the fund, which amounts towards negligence towards frontline workers, according to the Association release.
The academic fee has increased by 40% from Rs 30,000 to R 1,20,000.
During the pandemic, medical student were asked to pay the full amount without concessions.Residents from different districts protested against this demand on November 9.After the Health minister promised that the demands would be met within 10 days, the protest was rescinded.
