Los Angeles, Nov 29, : , Matthew McConaughey, a Hollywood star, has decided not to run for Governor of Texas.
Variety.com reports that the actor announced the news on Sunday via a video posted to his official account on Twitter.

“Over the last two years, I have been trying to figure out how I can best serve this life going forward.Politics is one category of service that I’ve been exploring.

McConaughey stated in the clip that he had been thinking about running for governor of Texas.

He said, “It’s an humbling path to contemplate.

It is also a path I am choosing to not take at the moment.

“I will continue to work and invest my bounty by supporting entrepreneurs, businesses, foundations, and establishments that are leaders, establishments I believe are creating pathways to success in life.”

McConaughey, an Oscar-winning actor, had been teasing about a possible entry into the 2022 gubernatorial election in his home state over the past few weeks.However, McConaughey hadn’t begun to organize serious fundraisers to support his political efforts.

His decision comes just two weeks before the December 13 deadline for the state government to enter the race.

McConaughey would have launched a campaign to enter what is shaping up as one of the most influential political races in 2022.

Dallas Morning News recently conducted a poll that showed McConaughey outperformed incumbent Republican governor Greg Abbott, and Democratic candidate Beto Ol’Rourke.

44% of Texans polled said they would vote for McConaughey over Abbott’s 35%, while 49% chose O’Rourke in a head-to–head race.

McConaughey never stated whether he would run for office as an independent or with a political party.
