New Delhi, Nov 27, : The Punjab Kings, who had a disappointing season last year, may not be able to retain any of their players ahead of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auctions. While most franchises want to retain their key players before the mega auction, Punjab may be looking to make a fresh start and enter the bidding war having a full purse balance at Rs 90 crore.
Notably, all eight franchises have been asked for their retention lists by November 30.
An earlier report stated that KL Rahul, the star batter and captain of India T20I, is not interested in remaining with Punjab (PBKS) due to its lack of success. The India T20I vice captain is at the top of the wishlist for the two new franchises — Ahmedabad (PBKS) and Lucknow (IPL 2022 mega-auction).
According to The Telegraph India, PBKS is now considering uncapped players such as Ravi Bishnoi or Arshdeep Sing as potential retentions, but have not yet made their decision.
According to the report, “The franchise would only need INR 4 crore to retain an uncapped player,” said the report.
Punjab has not had much success in the cash-rich league’s history despite changing their squads, captains and coaching staff nearly every season.
