Bengaluru, Nov 27, : Two South African nationals tested positive for Covid-19 at the Kempegowda International Airport.This has caused panic among health authorities about the new Omicron variant. K.Srinivas, Bengaluru Rural Deputy Commissioner, said Saturday that further tests would be done to determine if the South African nationals have been infected.
According to the Health Department, the results of the test will take 48 hours to arrive.
Both were sent to quarantine centers, where they will remain until their test results confirm the new variant.
Srinivas stated that 584 people have arrived from 10 countries of “high-risk”, and that 94 have come from South Africa.
He also visited Bengaluru airport in order to inspect the security and precautionary steps being taken by authorities regarding the examination of international passengers arriving from high-risk countries where the Omicron variant is detected.
