Anpur, Nov 27, : India beat New Zealand by 296 runs in the third Test at the Green Park Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.India held a slim 49-run lead thanks to the contributions of Umesh Yadav (1/50), Ravindra Jadeja (1/57), and Ravichandran Ashwin (3/82). India had to work hard as Will Young (89), and Tom Latham (95), put together an opening stand totalling 151.The hosts were patient and didn’t lose heart, despite triggering a New Zealand meltdown.Ashwin finally managed to separate the openers when Young edged an outside delivery that kept low with the outer edge of KS Bharat.This was Wriddhiman’s replacement, who has a stiff neck and caught a fantastic low catch in the 67th Over.
India had taken the review and Ashwin would have had his second wicket in the 72nd over.The off-spinner was an ace and got one to turn from leg stump.He then rapped Latham’s pad before off-stump.Later replays showed three reds which was a costly mistake for India.
Kane Williamson was nervous against Ashwin, but came out in full flow to beat Jadeja.He smashed him for boundaries through point and cover.
India were immediately rewarded after taking the new ball.Yadav received a length ball to nip in and rapped his right-hander on the back pad.Williamson reviewed replays, but the ball hit the top of the middle stump.
India was rewarded after lunch for their unwavering tight lines when Patel got Ross Taylor (left-arm spinner) and Henry Nicholls (right-arm spinner).
The left-arm spinner received a length delivery and was able to turn Taylor’s bat to take the outer edge off his bat on forward defense to KS Bharat, substitute keeper.He returned in his next over and took out Nicholls.
Nicholls missed the sweep and was rapped to the back pad.Nicholls reviewed the decision, but could not reverse it.
In the 103rd over, Latham, who was solid as a rock fell five short of his 12th Test hundred.The left-hander tried to defend but the inner edge rolled to Bharat who held his balance to complete the stumping.Patel was awarded his third wicket.While Debutant Rachin Ravindra was good at hitting Ashwin for boundaries, his promising stay at crease ended when Ravindra Jadeja bowled him through the gate as New Zealand fell from 214/2 and 241/6.
After tea, Patel scored again.He managed to sneak one past Tom Blundell with low bounce.
After tea, Patel scored his fifth five-wicket win in Test cricket.He surprised Tim Southee by surprising him with an angled-in delivery that spun past the bat and left the stumps shattered.
After some resistance from Kyle Jamieson, Patel was caught at deep midwicket by Ashwin in the 139th Over.To end New Zealand’s innings, the off-spinner had William Somerville bowled clean in four overs.
