Hyderabad, Nov 27, : , Saturday’s closure of Mahindra University in Hyderabad was due to positive Covid-19 tests by 25 students and five staff members. The students were sent home by Tech Mahindra Ltd, a university in Bahadurpally, on the outskirts Hyderabad.
They announced that they will be able to take classes online starting Monday.
IANS was informed by university sources that five students, one faculty member, and four support staff tested positive for Covid-19.
Sources claim that 1,700 students and staff were tested for the virus.
Meanwhile, K.Mallikarjuna Rao, the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Medchal Makajgiri, visited the university Saturday.
He stated that those who test positive were living in isolation at home.
Official stated that the university had declared 15 days of holiday.
The multi-disciplinary university was launched by the Mahindra Group last summer.It is spread across 130 acres.
It is the first university in Telangana that has been locked down by Covid following the second wave of pandemic.
29 students from a government-run residential school in Telangana’s Khammam District tested positive for the virus last week.
