Rafiq, a Yorkshire cricketer who played between 2008-2018, recently spoke out about the ‘institutionally racist” English cricket culture during his nearly ten-year-long stint at the county side.

The off-spinner who moved from Pakistan in 2001 to the UK and took 72 wickets in a total 39 First-Class matches, said that England players Alex Hales would refer to cricketers with colour as “Kevin”.He also stated that Gary Balance had named his dog “Kevin” because it was black.

Rafiq claimed that Vaughan had stated that there were “too few of you lot”, and that something needed to be done before a 2009 game.Vaughan has, however, denied the claim.

Vaughan stated, “It hurts deeply. It hurts me that someone who has been through so much be treated so poorly at the club that we love,” on BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker Saturday.

“I must take responsibility for that because I played 18 years for Yorkshire County Cricket Club.I apologise if I was responsible for any of his injuries.”

Vaughan answered the question, “No, I didn’t.” No.”

Vaughan was the skipper of England’s Test side from 2003 to 2008.He played domestically for Yorkshire between 1993 and 2009.

Vaughan stated that he was proud that four Asians represented his county side.

“I remember clearly that I was proud that Yorkshire County Cricket Club had four Asian players,” said Vaughan.

Vaughan stated that he was a proud, senior, and experienced pro who was about to retire, and was delighted that Yorkshire had made so many achievements during his time at the club.

Vaughan stated that he felt “hurt” about Rafiq’s claims before the MPs.

“It hurts because I feel that it hurts because I have always felt that England captain for six years, the greatest praise I received was that I was the type of person that really galvanized the group.I felt that I was always the person in the dressing rooms that wanted everyone to feel included.
