Washington, Nov 27, : , The US President Joe Biden announced that travel restrictions will be imposed on eight African countries because of a new coronavirus found on the continent. According to Anthony Fauci, Biden’s chief medical advisor, Biden stated Friday that his administration would restrict air travel from South Africa and Botswana as a precautionary measure to stop the spread of the Omicron coronavirus.
Biden said that the administration was still collecting more information about the variant.He also urged Americans to get vaccinated against it, according to Xinhua news agency.
This announcement was made in response to similar restrictions being announced by other countries, including Canada, France, and Britain.
According to US media reports, senior officials from the administration have stated that the US restrictions do not apply for US citizens or lawful permanent residents.
However, they must still show proof of negative testing before entering the US.
