Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay’s single bench had requested the School Service Commission withhold 542 salaries from employees who were allegedly hired after the panel was dissolved.

Gangopadhyay was listening to a petition about alleged irregularities in recruitment of Group D employees at the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

The commission claimed that the court wouldn’t allow it to file an answer in the matter. This prompted it move the division bench.Although the commission had requested a hearing on Friday, the division bench stated that the hearing will take place on Monday.

The single Gangopadhyay bench had previously ordered a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities.Following which, the state government, commission and WBBSE moved against the order.

The inquiry was halted by the division bench until the hearing was completed. This hearing is also scheduled for Monday.

The state had recommended that 13,000 fourth-class staff be recruited in 2016.In response, the WBSSC conducted periodic examinations and interviews and formed a panel.

In 2019, the term of the panel was over.It was widely believed that the commission had made many irregular recruitments, not less than 500, even after the expiration of the panel’s term.

There were also allegations that the regional office of commission was used to recruit.

A case was filed against the 25 appointments and it was heard in the single bench of Justice Gangopadhyay.

Initial thoughts of the judge were that there was confusion in the recommendations for those appointments.

He had said to the commission, “Enough is enough.”

“This means that there is no control by the commission over the regional office.Gangopadhyay stated that he did not want another scandal.
